For many, the mention of yet another TikTok challenge might bring fears of hospitalization stories and worried parents, but this latest one brings nothing but laughter.
Providing light-hearted entertainment, the challenge has over 943 million views across the platform and even celebrities such as The Rock and Kevin Hart have got involved.
What is the Tortilla Slap Challenge?
At its core, the challenge is essentially a slightly more complicated try-not-to-laugh challenge, previously made popular on YouTube.
Participators, often couples or family members, fill their mouths with water and have to keep it in place. The challenge? They’re slapping each other in the face with a tortilla wrap.
The pair play a round of rock, paper, scissors and whoever wins gets to slap the other with a tortilla.
To win the game, they must both try and hold the water in for as long as possible and through each tortilla slap.
Some don’t even make it that far, stumbling at the very first hurdle as they attempt to keep their laugh in.
The best Tortilla Slap Challenge videos
One of the most popular videos of the challenge comes from The Rock and Kevin Hart, who gained over 21 million likes on their try-out. The pair had a go at the challenge during promotion for their movie DC League of Super-Pets.
Despite the unfair height difference, Hart was able to slap The Rock with a tortilla wrap so hard it sent him backwards…a tiny bit. In one moment, Hart even asked him: “Don’t f***ing knock me out.” We don’t blame him.
The Rock was able to keep his water in seemingly easily, but Hart struggled with his.
TikToker @mattmikhaila gained over 9 million views with his take on the challenge with wife. The apparent displeasure from his wife entertained viewers, who said that she took out years and years of anger on him.
For @cirkelrosell, the challenge wasn’t such easy-going fun and it all ended in tears for the couple, when he seemingly slapped her harder than she expected.
Her bewildered boyfriend spat out his water as she cried, before leaning in to console her.
@Hannahdholstein’s viral video with over 4 million views saw her grandma and grandpa take it on. The two didn’t even bother with the rock, paper, scissors, and just slapped decades of frustration out on one another.
User Ross Smith did it with his grandmother too, but added in an effect, as her head hilariously disappeared from the shot. Talk about respecting the elders.
